Sleep apnea

Sleep apnea

Isuffered from sleep apnea. The first thing to do, if in doubt, is to consult your general practitioner, then possibly an ENT sleep specialist.

Using a questionnaire, he will be able to detect the possible presence of excessive apnea. In my case, I had to check it with a device he lent us, overnight: an apnea polygraph device.

My test with the polygraph

Example: innamed-patient.com

  • Between 5 and 15, sleep apnea is mild;
  • Between 16 and 30, sleep apnea is moderate;
  • If the apnea/hypopnea index (AHI) is greater than 30, the sleep apnea is severe.

My result being 30, I had to undergo treatment and figure out what was causing this excessive number of apneas.

After 2 years, I was able to reduce, after a new test, the number of apneas per hour to 20.

In my case, my solutions were mainly better nasal breathing and the use of an oral orthosis which had the double effect of reducing snoring and thus sleep apnea.
