Doctor specialist in sleep and surgery
I consulted many of them. I advise you, before choosing, to try to make a “beginning” of analysis of your problems (see article on “analysis”). Thus, you will be able to choose the doctor best able to answer your problem, according to his specialty.
You should first talk to your doctor about it. Then contact a sleep specialist who can carry out an analysis using a polygraph and a scanner of the nasal passages. At the end of this diagnosis, he will be able to explain the solutions available to you.
Solutions without surgery
- Oral orthosis.
- ointment to treat staphylococci in the nose (which can reduce the passage of air).
- The apnea therapy device (airflow)
- …
The polygraph having detected 30 apneas per hour, this specialist designed a custom orthosis for me. I have used it successfully. Then having lost it, I ordered this one .
I also tried the apnea therapy device for 3 months. In my case, I haven’t seen any real improvements, and it’s still “heavy” to use. I opted for surgery, see below.
Solutions with surgery
If surgery is considered, you should know that docteur ENT specialists all have their specialties. They do or do not do certain interventions.
Here are the possible interventions, for the hypertrophy of the nasal mucous membranes, which can be the cause of snoring and sleep apnea:
- Turbinoplasty surgery (single or double).
- Laser surgery (local anesthesia).
- Radio frequency surgery.
- …
As far as I am concerned, I first made 2 attempts at laser surgery, which were a failure (local anesthesia which did not work). Then successfully, a turbinoplasty (general anesthesia). This consists of cutting and removing part of the mucous membranes. The most annoying thing is having to keep your nose stuffed up for 48 hours. Then, when the cottons are removed, you immediately feel the gain in terms of air passage.
